An Introduction to Advanced Maternal (Age)
Remember when you thought you’d have it all figured out by 40? Yeah, so did I. Instead, here we are—balancing retirement planning sessions with preschool tours.
Hi, I’m Aurora Chime, the mom who gets mistaken for the grandma at school pick-up. I created Advanced Maternal in 2025 as a response to the concept of “advanced maternal age” and “geriatric” parenting (thanks for those charming terms, healthcare industry). This blog emerged from my realization that I wasn’t alone: becoming a parent after 35, 40, or beyond comes with its own special blend of joys, challenges, and absurdities that deserve to be shared.
Around here, you’ll find stories from parents like us:
- C-suite leaders who mastered board room negotiations only to be outsmarted by three-year-olds
- People whose knees audibly creak while getting up from the floor after building Lego castles (yes, restorative yoga is a parenting tip)
- Social butterflies who excel at building new social circles (hello, Mom Squad) and who experience the unique parental time warp where you’re raising a kid while all your peers and friends are becoming empty nesters
I’m here to celebrate the unique—dare I say, advanced?—perspective that comes with later-in-life parenting—where wisdom meets utter confusion, where patience abounds (mostly because I’m too tired to react quickly), and where I’ve learned that the best parenting tool is a healthy sense of humor.
Whether you came to parenting later by choice, chance, or circuitous journey, you’ve found your people. So grab that lukewarm coffee you’ve reheated three times already and join our community of parents who may not be spring chickens but are certainly young at heart.
You’re never too old to be new at this. Thank you for reading.
